  • Description

The 3800/1A in steel with a blue dial is, in many respects, the canonical Nautilus — the configuration that defined the reference's identity across over two decades of continuous production and introduced more collectors to Genta's porthole vision than any other variant. It is the 3800 in its most essential, most argued-over, most quietly perfect form.

The steel integrated bracelet and blue horizontal embossed dial achieve a chromatic and material harmony that precious metal variants, for all their respective merits, approach but never quite replicate. That particular depth of Nautilus blue — shifting between slate and sapphire depending on light and angle — against brushed and polished steel remains among the most satisfying dial and case pairings in the entire history of the sports watch.

Produced from 1981 to 2006 in sufficient numbers to be encountered, yet never in sufficient numbers to be taken for granted. The Nautilus that defined a generation of collectors.
