Description
The 4100ST sits at the very origin of Royal Oak history — one of the earliest references produced following Genta's 1972 debut, a primary document from the moment AP was asking the market to reconsider everything it understood about luxury watchmaking. At this remove, surviving examples in any condition carry significance. In this condition, they carry considerably more.
The tropical dial — a phenomenon produced by the organic degradation of early lacquer and pigment compounds under prolonged UV and humidity exposure — transforms what was originally a standard configuration into something entirely unrepeatable. No two tropical dials age identically; the warm, coffee-to-chocolate migration of colour across the surface is the watch's own autobiography, written in light and time.
Collectors have pursued tropical dials across Rolex, AP, and beyond with an intensity the secondary market consistently validates. On a founding-generation Royal Oak, the combination of historical primacy and dial rarity produces an object of quietly extraordinary significance.
