  • Description

The 3700 is where the entire Nautilus story begins — unveiled at Basel 1976, designed by Gerald Genta in a single overnight session, and received by a market entirely unprepared for the proposition that a stainless steel sports watch could command the price of a precious metal dress watch. That it succeeded is now horological history. That original 3700 production remained limited across its run makes surviving examples objects of genuine primary significance.

The 3700/1AJ — the two-tone configuration pairing stainless steel with yellow gold across case, bezel, and integrated bracelet — introduces a warmth and visual complexity that the canonical all-steel variant deliberately resisted. In the context of the founding reference, the two-tone proposition feels almost transgressive — Genta's industrial vision softened, without being compromised, by precious metal.

To own a 3700 in any configuration is to own the origin. In two-tone, it is the origin with a certain swagger.
