“Shifting Luxury: What ‘Material Good’ Means Today”

For the 2025 U.S. Open, Material Good designed three standout pieces for world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka—the diamond choker, tourmaline pendant, and detachable earrings—each meticulously crafted to incorporate the number eight, marking her eighth U.S. Open appearance. The choker features seven pear-shaped diamonds and one imperial topaz; the pendant is centered on a rare 10.72-carat pink-orange tourmaline set in eight prongs; and each earring drop sparkles with eight diamonds.

Head designer Katherine Lev emphasizes the seamless blend of high-performance functionality with bold, fashion-forward style, tailored to coordinate with Sabalenka’s custom Nike look. As Sabalenka puts it: “Jewelry is really one of my biggest guilty pleasures… I design something custom for each Slam so that it matches my outfit and makes me feel put together when I’m on court.”

"The musician worked with Vanguart and Yoni Ben-Yehuda, Head of Watches at Material Good, the only retailer stateside to get a Vanguart watch, to sprinkle a little Mayer magic on it. It was important for Mayer to “make something true to what Vanguart built,” Ben-Yehuda says. Rather than the diamonds on the standard version of the watch, Vanguart set Mayer’s orb with blue sapphires. “It's a little bit of a tip of the hat, but it's not so different that it separates the design,” Ben-Yehuda says."
