  • Description

The 5980 holds a pivotal position in Nautilus history — the reference that first brought chronograph functionality to Genta's porthole silhouette when it debuted in 2006, answering a question collectors had been asking since the line's 1976 inception. That Patek achieved this whilst preserving the integrated bracelet's architectural integrity, rather than compromising it with an enlarged case, remains a genuine feat of movement and case engineering.

The 5980/1R in rose gold and on the integrated rose gold bracelet represents the chronograph Nautilus at its most formally considered — the sporting architecture entirely unified in precious metal, warm and assured, the horizontal embossed dial shifting between champagne and copper tones depending on light and angle. The manufacture calibre CH 28-520 C delivers column-wheel chronograph control with lateral clutch engagement — serious mechanical credentials beneath a configuration of considerable elegance.

Discontinued and increasingly scarce, the 5980/1R on bracelet occupies a rarefied position even within an already coveted reference family.
